Envirothon
The Envirothon is a competitive academic, outdoor team event for high school students that tests their knowledge in five areas. The five areas include soils, wildlife, current environmental issues, aquatic ecology, and forestry.
Each spring, five Area Envirothons are conducted throughout Ohio. The top four teams from each of the five Area competitions progress to the State Envirothon held in June.
In Ohio, the Envirothon is sponsored by the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (OFSWCD) and the Ohio Department of Agriculture, Division of Soil and Water Conservation. They are assisted by natural resource and environmental specialists from many agencies, organizations, universities, and businesses to develop the Envirothon questions and staff the testing stations.
